Chetola’s Festival of Lights in Blowing Rock

A holiday tradition in Blowing Rock, Chetola’s Festival of Lights features over 50,000 illuminations attracting thousands of visitors each year.

Drive around Chetola Lake and view glittering ice skaters, a nativity scene, Rudolph catching a “big fish” and much more. Over Friday and Saturday over Thanksgiving week-end , horse and carriage rides are offered around Chetola Lake from 5 pm to 9 pm.

The price is $15 per adult and $8 for children 12 and under. Cookie decorating will also be offered from 5 pm to 7 pm (free) and Santa will be visiting the Manor House Restaurant from 5 pm to 9 pm (free).

Festival of Lights runs through Blowing Rock Winterfest which ends on January 31, 2010.

Candlelight Christmas in Historic Murfreesboro is everything special that this holiday season affords.
The 2009 theme of “Small Town Christmas Magic” will bring to mind thoughts of children with noses pressed on store front windows longing for dollies and first bikes, the clicking of horses’ hooves on graveled roads, carolers lifting their voices in joyful song, and a warm handshake with a friendly holiday greeting. It is truly a celebration of childhood innocence, family ties, human compassion, and warm feelings.

Visitors stroll along the Historic District’s candlelight streets and walkways. They are invited to tarry in a multitude of old homes and buildings and are welcomed graciously be the citizenry. Old acquaintances are renewed and new friends made in a memory-making atmosphere. Christmas in Historic Murfreesboro always conjures a vision of heavily laden tables offering a sumptuous feast in an amazing fashion.

Christmas 2009 will feature the customary progressive dinner and the buildings will be festooned in unique decorations of Christmases past — all depicting the theme “Small Town Christmas Magic.”

A horse and carriage ride through the Historic District will enhance the complete Christmas moment. Individuals, families, church groups, and fraternal and civic organizations are urged to join in the celebration.

2009 HOMETOWN CHRISTMAS EVENTS

Thanksgiving Evening, Thursday, Nov. 26, Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony – 7:00pm. At the fountain. Music begins at 6:30 pm with the Thermal Belt Brass Quintet followed by an appearance by Santa at his Santa House. Over 500,000 lights in down.

Sunday, Nov. 29 – 3pm, Forest City Christmas Parade – Over 300 entries. Sponsored by the Forest City Merchants Association.

Fridays – Dec. 4, 11, & 18 – 6pm to 9pm, HAY RIDES. Load across from the fountain. Cost: $2.00 each – Children or Adults. See the holiday lights from a hay wagon pulled by an antique tractor.

Saturdays – Dec. 5, 12, & 19 – 6pm to 9pm, CARRIAGE RIDES. Load across from the fountain. Cost: $7.00 Adults/ $3 Children under 12. Sometimes a sell out! Last tickets usually sold between 8pm and 8:30pm.

Christmas season kicks off in Lexington, NC!

Uptown Lexington Inc. and local merchants will get into the spirit of the holiday season this weekend with the Second Annual Lighting of the Trees on Saturday evening followed by the 16th Annual Christmas Open House on Sunday.

The Second Annual Lighting of the Trees will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Meet in the lobby of host NewBridge Bank and stroll the 14-block route as the trees downtown are lighted.
The 16th Annual Christmas Open House will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. There will be free musical performances, horse-drawn carriage rides, Mr. and Mrs. Claus and the North Pole express train ride for children.

On Saturday, host NewBridge Bank will welcome strollers to their lobby to await the start of the annual walk to individually light each of the more than 40 trees along Main Street in Lexington. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., strollers accompanied by a horse-drawn carriage with musicians will leave the NewBridge lobby for the approximately 14-block walk that takes strollers first down South Main Street, loops at Third Avenue and continues to Third Street where they will cross to return down North Main to Center Street. Strollers can join the walk at any point along the route. After the lighting, NewBridge employees will treat strollers with hot beverages and cookies.

Greenville, NC’s Festival of Trees

Proceeds from our Tree Festival support scholarships and special projects as well as helping area families through the Family Support Network of Eastern North Carolina. Admission is free.
